Report by Potbelly
Nervously watching the weather forecast for a couple of weeks before the forecast changed from a wet weekend to a little rain on Friday evening and a pleasantly dry weekend.
The hares for the weekend gathered early on Friday and set off in different directions to lay the runs prior to the arrival of the masses.
Around 50 people varying from toddler to 87 gathered in a mix of accommodation at Castle Brake campsite, looking forward to a healthy weekend of fresh air and exercise with the possibility of a beer or two. It was good to welcome the usual suspects from Berkshire, Nosejob and Running Nose, Janie and family, and Pedigree Chum and family who joined us for the weekend.
Once enough people had arrived the gazebos were erected in the freshly cut field with less than the usual performance and then settling in before the first hash of the weekend.
Run 2491 report by Potbelly
We gathered at reception at 6:30 for the first run laid by Whingeing-Pom and Kiss Me who warned us of dangerous road crossings and to stick to tracks on the common before setting the shorts off 15 mins before the longs. Around the edge of a large field, into woods across roads and onto the common following tracks to the woods surrounding the hill Fort before retracing steps back to the start in about 1 hour 15.
Returning we congregated at the gazebos for refreshments, in spite of light rain, beer, wine and softies to await the down downs. The RA awarded down downs to the hares Whingeing-Pom and Kiss Me, Hornby for a builders smile while erecting the gazebos (photo evidence available), Potbelly for stealing Godmothers phone and Bronyon for testing the hot tub temperature with her phone in her hand with the inevitable result. Two more were awarded to Mr Blobby and C5 when they eventually turned up late after preening themselves.
Pasties were next, Cornish not Devon as advertised, many thanks to Wigan Whippet and Sniffer for ordering, collecting and heating them on site.

Run 2492 report by Potbelly
Saturday arrived and we gathered at Stanyway Farm near Otterton where Godmother directed the parking to ensure we could fit in.
Today’s hares were Hornby and Godmother suggesting it would be a long run. The briefing told us not to cut corners, the farm is organic so no tram lines, there would be a beer stop, two long short splits, there was a gate with a combination lock that would open if pulled and shortcuts would be available.
A long short at the start the longs decending into Otterton looped around a hill before heading for Ladrum Bay, heading out along the coast path with stunning coastal views and into fields before reaching the beer stop provided by Er Indoors and Mama Mia, thanks to them, before more fields, lanes and footpaths back to the cars after about two hours.
Back to The Kings Arms at Otterton everyone recovered and refreshed themselves before returning to the campsite to clean up before the afternoon tea, cakes and prosecco at the static caravans and sat in the sunshine.
In the evening we met about 6:00 and once again the RA did his bit awarding down downs to the hares, Hornby and Godmother, Rangi for sending the hare back, as he had seen a fallen hasher in blue over the hill that turned out to be a barrel, he also snapped the combination lock shut after he went through, Berkshire for complaing about being late, Nosejob for commenting “we will end up where we started”, Buiscuits for passing her nursing exams with a first, Spin The Wheel and B&M for announcing they are to wed, it was noticeable he was last to leave Friday night not so Saturday and Sunday after this announcement, and to Potbelly for 1500 runs.
This was followed by an amazing lasagne meal provided by Er Indoors and distributed by her and Mama Mia.

Run 2493 report by Potbelly
Sundays run was hared by Potbelly and Withanee starting at a bridleway up the road from the campsite, briefing no gates, sawdust and treasure stop. The run took us down the wooded bridleway to the hill fort, though the wood to the common and on tracks to and around a plantation and a long climb to a viewpoint overlooking the Exe estuary where the treasure was placed before returning on bridleways to the campsite.
Back to the RA with down downs to the hares Potbelly and Withane, Bronyon for cursing the Whingeing-Pom for sending her on a false saying I’m at the f*****g back now, Matthew Early for racing and a magnificent milestone for Foo Foo 2000 runs.
A sausage and bacon brunch was provided by Er Indoors and Mama Mia followed by a few beers for those staying another night before taking down the gazebos and clearing the site.
Whingeing-Pom arranged a Sunday roast for 34 diners in the site bar/ restaurant to complete the weekends festivities.

Thankyou to everyone making the weekend a success, whether laying runs, catering or cleaning up.

As Steve writes the ‘words’ he couldn’t be seen to thank himself so a big thank you to Steve for all the planning that led to a very successful weekend. Also thanks to Irene for the ingenious quiz.
