Run 2573 report by Falsie

39 Hashers and 5 Hares gathered on a cold morning kitted out in hats and gloves on a thankfully dry day. A change from the last Early hash which was in awful conditions. If I remember correctly , there was wind, rain and zero visibility.
Longs and shorts set off in different directions, the shorts went up towards the mast and the longs went off, with Forest leading the way, down towards Minions. Lots of the drops and checks had been vandalised, but the hares were never far away.
The longs and shorts joined up at the treasure stop which was a selection of homemade gingerbread treats. A further long short split saw the shorts head over the top of Caradon Hill and down towards the Wheal Tor. The longs did a loop to meet the shorts briefly on the run home.
Back at a warm Caradon Inn , down downs were given to the hares Cyril the squirrel and Black Shadow and young Earlys Matthew, Annabelle and Thomas.

Don’t forget it’s a Christmas fancy dress hash!
Run 2572 report by Mystic Meg

Thankfully, the weather forecast was incorrect as we all gathered in Seaton Car Park on a dry, albeit dismal morning. Many hashers were in festive outfits but B&M and Spin The Wheel would have won the prize (if there had been a prize to win!) dressed as Santa’s elves they really looked the picture.
The longs set off along the sea wall only to have to descend a metal ladder down onto the beach to run back to the start. The shorts crossed the road bridge across the river into the woods.
The hash took us around Seaton towards Hessenford through the woods, across the main road on to the Seaton Valley trail.
There was a Wimp and Rambo split. The Rambo trail followed a very slippery bike track with lots of steep drops. Many hashers ended up on their backsides!
Unfortunately, due to the terrible forecast, there was no mulled wine and mince pie stop this year. However, there was a treasure stop with chocolate lollipops and candy canes hanging off a gazebo.

Back at the Beach House, down downs were given to the hares, Hot Bottom, Jaws and Piglet. One for Spin the Wheel for doing the Rambo and B&M for leaving her to it. Never had our GM down as a wimp (shame on you!) Nom de Plume received one for taking Pantyhose and Paddington away for Christmas (don’t know where he is taking them) We also had a virgin hasher, Sharon, who received a down-down too.

A great pre-Christmas hash – thanks to the hares.

Run 2571
Sunday 14th December @ 11am

Venue: Cripstone Farm, Braddock, PL22 0RJ. No dogs please. SX163632
Hares: Little Bo Peep and Bronyon
On-Down: Pelynt Social Club, Pelynt. PL13 2LG
Run 2571 report by Falsie

Yet another great run with the weather gods on our side. 33 Hashers and 2 Hares set off across green fields and some not so green due to a demonstration of modern umbilical cord slurry spreading. Not too pleasant but if you could smell it you probably didn’t have covid.
The shorts were given misdirection by Little Bo Peep before she realised we were in the wrong field. We were spoiled on this hash with a beer stop (thanks Mamma Mia and Er Indoors) and a treasure stop. Due to a lot of shiggy the stream before the end was a relief to not have to put those soiled shoes back in the cars.
On-Down at the Pelynt Social. Down downs were given to the hares Bronyon and Little Bo Peep, and Biscuits for laying a previous weeks hash but not running it. Also a down downs to Falsie for 900 runs.

Run 2570
Sunday 7th December @ 11am

Venue: on the road between Rilla Mill & Rillaton. SX298735
No dogs please
Hares: I’m Three & Eastern Promise
On-Down: The Manor House, Rilla Mill. If anyone wants to book for the carvery please ring the pub on 01579 362354 & mention the hash.
2570 run report by Falsie

A good turnout despite the wind and rain to Rilla Mill. Ominously I’m Three was wearing wellies.
The bottom of the first field resembled the commando assault course. The briefing mentioned three long short splits but I think there may have been four.. Plenty of fields gates and slippery styles. The River Lynher was in full spate and looked very uninviting down through the woods.
Back at the Manor House Hotel. Down downs for the Hares Eastern Promise and I’m Three. Rotten Cotton got a down down for 1800 runs. Pedigree Chum for her 30th birthday and Hide ‘n Seek for asking where the stairs could be found. The RA bollocked the middle runners for not calling.

Run 2569
Sunday 30th November @ 11am

Venue: Trengrove Sheds on road between Merrymeet and Rosecraddoc Lodge PL14 3LL SX275664
Hares: Godmother and Biscuits
On-Down: The Sportsman’s Arms, Menheniot Station PL14 3UF
No dogs please.
Run 2569 report by Falsie

Sadly due to work commitments, Biscuits couldn’t make the run.
Godmother delivered the briefing and single handedly managed to hare the longs shorts and walkers. An excellent run across fields and woodland in glorious sunshine. Longs shorts and walkers arrived back at the cars together for a dash through the lanes for the on down at The Sportsman’s.
Down downs for Godmother. Also for Mystic Meg for not reading the website last week and navigating to the wrong start point. To Spin The Wheel for falling and to Raffle for laughing at her. Liam was named Mandrake after his loud voice (one for Harry Potter fans).
Can everyone have a look in their cupboards and drawers for any of the missing hash prat T shirts.

Run 2568
Sunday 23rd November @ 11am

Venue: Tredudwell Manor Car Park PL23 1NJ SX155521
No dogs please.
Hares: Kiss Me and Carnage
On-Down: The Ship Inn, Lerryn, PL22 0PT
If anyone would like a Sunday Roast, could they please ring the Pub by Wednesday 19th November stating that you are with L2H3 with your choice of beef, turkey or pork. Tel:01208 872374
Run 2568 report by Falsie

35 hashers and 2 hares gathered at a sunny Tredudwell Manor, not the car park at Lerryn as some of us presumed. We were led astray by all the WhatsApp talk of lunch at the Ship. Must check the website next time!
Longs and shorts set off across fields of very long and wet grass after the overnight rain. Despite the forecast of showers it remained dry. There were three long short splits and a treasure stop.
A very well laid run which was praised by the RA back at the On Down at the Ship Inn, Lerryn. Down downs for the hares Kiss Me and Carnage. Also for Whingeing Pom for running the long and not whingeing once. And for Invisible Man for following Little Bo Peep presuming she knew where she was going, they said there wasn’t any stock in the fields! A welcome to Forest’s four uni friends who joined the longs, one who had run with us before and three virgin Hashers.

Run 2567
Sunday 16th November @ 11am

Venue: Looe Mills Lay By, Liskeard, PL14 4LD east bound side of A38 just before Looe Mills Farm. No dogs. SX232647
Hares: Hide ’n Seek and Sun Dodger
On-Down: British Legion, Liskeard
Run 2567 report by Mystic Meg

What a great turnout! 36 adults and 4 children turned up for the run at Looe Mills Lay-by on a lovely dry morning. We all set off running (or rather walking) up the hill to Looe Mills Farm. The farmer was standing at the top of the hill and said that he thought Rachel had told him it was a run, not a walk! Once we reached the top of the hill we were off…..running through fields full of sheep. Mystic Meg ran a through a field to a false and on the way back was chased by a large flock of sheep. We ended up in High Wood where I am told that Cyril the Squirrel ran almost all the falses. A really enjoyable, well-laid run. Thanks to the hares.
Back at the on-down at the British Legion (who opened just for us!) Jaws stood in as RA. Down downs given to the hares, Hide ‘n Seek and Sun Dodger, Eric Big Axe who finally turned up and got the ‘Too Much Tarmac’ award (the On Sec will be very pleased to get rid of it as he has brought it to every hash since the AGM), Liam and Alfie for good running and Zak, their dad, for not noticing any drops but Alfie pointed out that he was standing next to a check!
Thank you to Get One Free for supplying the raffle prizes.

Run 2566
Sunday 9th November @ 11am

Venue: Cecil Arms, Saltash PL12 4AR SX416583
Hares: Brillo and Capt’n Oates
On-Down: The Cecil Arms
Run 2566 report by Falsie

27 Hashers and 4 hares turned up (Well, 2 actually turned up) to a very wet Remembrance Sunday hash at the Cecil Arms at Saltash. Before the run The Bard recited the fourth verse of the poem For The Fallen by Laurence Binyon as he always does and is much appreciated. I for one think back to our family loss of my nephew Sapper Guy Mellors RIP.

Well what can I say about the run? Wet Wet Wet! It was laid in a mixture of red and blue chalk and sawdust which all fared badly in the persistent rain. Brillo had the sense to hare from the bar. Capt’n Oates lived up to her hash name but thankfully didn’t perish in the conditions. The elusive treasure stop was only found by the walkers and was passed round back at the pub.
Down downs for the hares Cpt Oates, Brillo (Grenville and Gasbag in their absence) Also a down-down to Foofoo for finding the treasure and a belated birthday for Too Posh the RA added an extra three years to her actual age. Hash name for one of our youngest Hashers Fynn as ‘Raffle’ after lots of different suggestions on WhatsAp. Fortunately the name was chosen by his Nana or he could have ended up with Boaty Mc Boatface!
Thank you to the Cecil Arms for supplying sandwiches, and the hares.

Other news:
For next week’s On Down at the British Legion Liskeard. The Cattle Market car park is closed you will need to find alternative parking.

Run 2565
Sunday 2nd November @ 11am

Venue: Maker Church Car Park PL10 1JB SX447520
Hares: Carnage and Kiss Me
On-Down: Bar Tusker, Millbrook, PL10 1AE. Park in Millbrook Main Car Park SX422519
Run 2565 report by Carnage

Having been lucky enough to win a Write A Word prize on Spin The Wheel at the AGM, this is it.
There was an excellent turnout at Maker for the run on Sunday and surprise, you could see the views.
It was a tale of two runs! The short was very well laid and overseen by Kiss Me. Numbers on the short were swelled by the visiting Ward family and the Sawyers family. All seemed to be enjoying themselves with the Wards being first back. Hope they found the treasure.
The long was total confusion from the start to finish overseen by the aged equally confused hare.
On returning to the cars we were treated to some lovely cakes to celebrate Rubberlegs and Too Posh birthdays.
At the increasingly popular Bar Tusker pub we were greeted by Biggles, Rotton Cotton, and three nonagenarians! making the age range at the hash from 4 months to ninety+. Down downs for the hares, two Ward front runners, Rubberlegs for 80th birthday and the GM for 200 runs.

Run 2564
Sunday 26th October @ 11am

Venue: Kit Hill - middle carpark, halfway up the hill on the left. SX379714
Hares: HT2 and Endosperm
On-Down: The Swingletree, Kelly Bray. Bar food will be available without booking (not the Sunday roast)
Run 2564 report by B&M

An impressive number of Hashers, ranging from three to eighty plus years young, arrived on a dry but chilly Kit Hill. The excellent visibility (take note The Bard and Scarlet Moggie) afforded some magnificent panoramic vistas of Plymouth Sound, Dartmoor, and Bodmin Moor to the North. This seemed to have an almost invigorating effect on the assembly, because as HT2 assisted by Endosperm began to impart the customary wisdom, I thought l detected a rare whiff of enthusiasm from the troops. Indeed once game on was declared, a minor stampede ensued and the pack soon picked up the start of what was to be an entertaining and well thought out trail. There were lots of checks and splits that sent the shorts and longs almost interweaving in places, and whichever way you thought the trail should logically go, it went the other way. The hares made full use of the many tracks and paths left by the areas recent industrial past when the hill was full of noise and workers.
Kit Hill (Kit is old English for Kite ) is now a place of peace and tranquillity, apart from some late night extracurricular masked activity reputed to occur in the top car park, and a bunch of odd people running around shouting at each other. Maybe the Kites will return at some point to this wildlife haven, as doubtless the hash will. Your plodding scribe finally came in sight of of the end, and a search party, just embarking on a hunt for stragglers after well over the hour. Where else for less than the price of half a pint of ale can you have so much fun. Note the subs for the top car park activity are not known at this point.
It was a pleasure to see some visitors back again, and to welcome Dan and Joe who on their first time with us were Hares.
A fact that may interest those of you who read this is that Endosperm, as well as laying L2H3 hash no 2564, actually ran L2H3 hash no 1 as a visiting TVH3 runner. Yes I did google the meaning of endosperm and now I am consumed with curiosity as to why this hash name was bestowed upon him.
On a more sombre note, Little Bo Peep informed us of the sad news that Sue Stevenson one of the founders of L2H3 had recently passed away.
May I on behalf of the whole Hash extend our sympathy to her family.

ON DOWN
Held at the Swingletree Inn many thanks to them.
Down downs:
Hares: Endosperm, HT2, Dan, and Joe.
Milestones: Your Nikked 50 runs
Withane 650 runs
Misdemeanors:
Carnage for doing unauthorised ballet move whilst indicating he had found a check, or doing a Darcy Bussel as the RA described it.

Other news:
I heard a sad tale that Hash Cash had impaled himself on some carpet gripper, it was not clear as to what activity would bring him into close proximity to carpet grippers, probably best not to know. However the point of this sad tale is it seems hash cash actually bled proving he does indeed have a heart, which must have been skipping with joy at the amount of subs taken.

Run 2563
Sunday 19th October @ 11am

Venue: Wheal Tor PL14 5PJ SX278700
Hares: The Bard and Scarlett Moggie
On-Down: Wheal Tor Hotel. Park alongside the track leading to Wheal Tor, unless you are going straight in. If anyone wants food please book a table direct with the pub. Tel: 01579 363401 or 07999 765018.
As it is a celebration of ‘One and All and All for One’(x2 for a certain hasher) please wear something Cornish.
Run 2563 report by B&M

Well, a good number of Hashers managed to extract themselves from the comfort of their beds, to brave the the wind and rain for the one for all, and all for one hash. A celebration of all things Cornish, expertly laid by The Bard and Scarlet Moggie. Upon arriving at The Wheal Tor, the next hurdle to overcome was to summon up enough courage to get out of the car, in the teeth of a brisk southwesterly driving the rain, and fog before it, to listen to The Bard’s words of wisdom. I assume that with the large number of briefings he has given over the years, he soon learnt that the troops can only retain so much information, as all his briefings are very brief. In this case we had the usual checking from over there, and given the the low visibility to look out for each other.
As I set off onto the moor I thought this is what Hashing is all about. None of this namby-pamdy Run in the Sun business, but being soaked to the skin, cold, and in thick fog especially higher up Caradon Hill. Just to spice things up a bit more, the mud was of a particularly low coefficient of friction making the negotiation of the downhill sections a hazardous enterprise.
As a slight digression, having for a number of years tramped about Cornwall the variety and amount of mud is astounding, and if at some future date for whatever the reason it became a valuable commodity, Cornwall would be the new Saudi Arabia of the world. I would also advise any academic wishing to produce a learned paper on mud, they could do much worse than take up hashing.
Anyway having taken the advise of keeping together the home arrow
finally came into view but due to the fog did not point to any visible landmark, so we just blundered on in the general direction of the arrow until  I’m Three spotted a house which he said is not the highest dwelling in the County but has the highest bedrooms ( not many people know that you know). From here it was a straight run in, to be greeted by The Bard with some very welcome drinks and nibbles.
The next instalment of character building, was changing into dry clothes in the pouring rain which turned out to be a fruitless exercise, as when the warmth of The Wheal Tor was finally reached the dry clothes were no longer dry.
ON DOWN
Thanks to the Wheal Tor once again for a warm welcome.
Hares ; The Bard and Scarlet Moggie for laying a hash with great views
Misdemeanor ; Rubber Legs for asking the RA for a down down.
I think the RA must have been mindful of hash cashes beauty sleep as a number of our number were not sporting Cornish Colours as requested.

Run 2562
Sunday 12th October @ 11am

Venue: Meet in lay by on Liskeard side of Upton Cross. SX280718
Hares: Forest and Rangi
On-Down: Wheal Tor. If anyone wants food they should book a table direct with the pub. Tel:01579 363401 or 07999 765018.
Run 2562 report by Falsie

38 Hashers set off from the lay-by at Upton Cross and looped across the main road and back onto the moor. The front runners were nowhere to be seen by the time the plodders got to the long short split. After a lot of checking the back runners eventually rejoined the shorts. The fine weather and good visibility enabled the back runners to catch glimpses of the shorts ahead. By the time we arrived back at the lay-by most Hashers were already in the bar.
Back at the on down at the Wheat Tor down downs were given to the hares Forest and Rangi. To Alfie for excellent running. To Shake Em Up and Falsie for getting lost on familiar ground. And to B&M for forgetting the words to the hash song whilst down under, must have been the jet lag. New hasher Dan. T-shirt given to Bronyon 100th hare.
Sorry for the late submission. For some reason it didn’t send last week. Had to rewrite from memory. I will be away for the next two weeks, please could someone send in the reports.

Run 2561

On-Down: Marquee Bar, Duloe. PL14 4PN
No dogs please.
Run 2561 report by Falsie

Hash from Tremadart Farm Duloe.
27 Hashers including Hares set off in fine weather across fields with very little in the way of stock. The shorts were out longer than the longs due to a miss-read false. After returning to the cars and not finding any shorts or a treasure stop some of the dedicated long runners retraced their steps and found the second long short. Back at the On Down Hornby read out a reminder of what Hashing was all about. Curing hangovers, physical health and reminding older members they’re not as old as they seem. Down Downs were given for the Hares Whingeing Pom and Bronyon. A second Down Down for Bronyon for 100 times as Hare. Endosperm for misreading a false and Horse Trough for getting lost in the maize.
A great Hash and good beer.

Today’s Hash at Mount Edgcumbe Country Park. We were joined by four visiting Hashers and Brillo making a total of 27 Hashers. Hared by Godmother and Kiss Me on the short and Shake ‘Em Up, Mystic Meg and Falsie on the long. We set off in glorious sunshine with fine views in all directions. The longs skirted the edge of Grenville Battery and back along the Coast path to the park where the shorts dropped down to join the longs in the woods. A treasure stop was very welcome as we climbed back over the park towards the folly and circled the deer park back to the cars. On Down was back at the Devon and Cornwall without the promised food. Down Downs for the Hares and Rangi for 600 runs. Thanks to Jaws for standing in as RA.

Other news:

Run 2559 report by Falsie

Lesson one, pay attention and take notes. Thanks to Hide ‘n Seek for filling in the gaps.
AGM run from Bottonnett Farm
After what seems like weeks of gloomy weather we gathered in glorious sunshine for a lovely run with fantastic views. We were supplied with a treasure stop and beer stop along the way. After the run we made our way back to the Firebrand brewery for a fantastic curry and lots of drink. More prizes could also be won from spinning the wheel. Godmother won a very cruel “lay a hash”. A great selection of ales on tap and plenty of nibbles. Down Downs for the hares, Forest, Godmother, Little Bo Peep and Hide ‘n Seek. Also for visiting hasher (Shut That Door!), birthday for Bronyon 21 again and Ketchup Kisses.
On Sec deviated from the one minute rule roundup by delivering the roundup of her year in humerous verse. Hope this doesn’t set a precedent. Next year will be back to 60 seconds or less. This year’s awards were given to Eric Big Axe for too much tarmac ( Pensilva run). Hare of the dog to Little Bo Peep for her consumption of too much Langavulin at hash camp. Hasher of the year to a well deserved Er Indoors working behind the scenes to keep the Hash well fed. Hare of the year to Capt’n Oates and Gasbag for their hospitality and generosity. Young Hasher of the year went to Fynn.
Thanks to Forest and outgoing Mismanagement for a great day and a wonderful year of Hashing.

Run 2558
Monday 15th September @ 7pm
Venue:
Minions car park (not Hurlers) PL14 5LL SX262713
Hares: The Bard and Scarlett Moggie
On-Down: The Manor House, Rilla Mill
Run 2558 report by Forest

Last Monday night hash for 2025 – of course laid by The Bard and Scarlett Moggie and of course starting from Minions and of course another excellent one in very very windy conditions. I forgot to ask if they got soaked laying it, but it just about stayed dry for the hash.
There was a long short split at the start with strict instructions from The Bard that the first drop was laid within 30 yards or was it meters, of each check so not to go and wander all over the moors and get lost in the dark!! Point taken and I did keep checking back but realised I hadn’t a clue how far 30 yards was!!! Not sure where the shorts went, but the longs meandered along, above and below one of the main tracks heading towards the cheesewring quarry.
As usual, the checks were plentiful and kept us guessing as to which direction we would next be going. We definitely need a master class in expert hash laying by these two. We met up with the shorts at one point and then split again, with the longs going into Cheesewring Quarry, out the other end, up to Stowes hill on a non-obvious roundabout route. We were quite sheltered for a while but on reaching the highest point, we were bombarded by the wind once again. Over the other side and headed across to the track leading back to Minions – but no – we had more mileage to go before we could finish our run, ran up and across the Golddiggings track, x country back to the Minions track and again all the way back to Minions Car park, via the hurlers, the back of Hurlers Car Park and Minions Village, just as it was getting dark. Perfect timing.
The On Down was at The Manor House Inn in Rilla Mill. Down downs to the hares – The Bard and Scarlett Moggie for a superb run, and to Er Indoors for 1400 visits to the pub! Rubberlegs announced it was his last time as RA as he is on holiday next week, so I’d just like to thank him for being the RA for the past year- not an easy job trying to be heard amongst the rowdiness of the hash! Which brings me on to think – is this my last word as On Sec or do I have to write up the AGM? I have no clue but I’m sure I will be told. Surely that’s the job of the next On Sec isn’t it – or maybe Ted will finally grace us with his presence (if the weather is to his pleasing) and write it for us!
We did have one lady approach Rubber Legs in the Car Park and complain that we shouldn’t be running an organised event without permission. Rubberlegs did his best to convince her that firstly it wasn’t an event and secondly that we were far from organised, but I’m not sure she was convinced. I’m looking into it again and will speak to James Bolitho (who I think must be a commoner and my neighbour) and an article Irene has sent me to see what the situation is – again! On On to the AGM!!!

Run 2557 report by Shook ’em Up

After a wet and blustery day, Monday evening turned into beautiful sunshine and perfect running conditions. We were joined by Tamar Valley hashers who at first found our calling checks and on on quite amusing. We ran over open fields, through deep dark woods , a path beside a river and under / beside towering viaducts.
There was an incident with some cows and a bull!!! I think we all ran a bit faster. Well done Sally for getting us through that bit. He was a big boy and we weren’t going to argue with him.

The hares visited Coldrenick in the afternoon to check the hash and were joined by two Tamar Valley Hashers.
Thank you to Rob and Fiona for hosting, the ladies in the kitchen for the burgers and hotdogs, and Godmother and Sniffer for a great run and a lovely end to the evening.

Run 2556 report by Forest

Rain off and on all day – was this going to be a very muddy hash. But before we start with the report there was some exciting news.
We now have a Mr and Mrs Falsie – Falsie and Mystic Meg tied the knot last Thursday and kept it very quiet. But the news leaked out and the On Sec was alerted. Still only 3 people knew (or so we thought) and the plan was to announce it at the Down Downs but hard to keep something like that a secret in the hash so before the word spread Get One Free told the rest of the troops. CONGRATULATIONS to you both.

Therefore, with a smile on our face we set off, some, with head torches in hand (just in case). The start was JUST tarmac and at one point I really thought, with the AGM getting closer, that B&M was after the Too Much Tarmac Award!! However, we eventually turned off the road onto a series of footpaths that took us down, down and down! The checks had been tampered with – B&M said it was horses – others were a little more cynical – but with the hare’s help we found the right route. Once through a gate the sawdust was much clearer so we were left to search for ourselves. Of course, what comes down, must come up – a little more tarmac and then back to footpaths, granite styles, woodland, lanes, paths through people’s gardens. The hares had found an amazing multitude of ways of getting us from A-B. It was like going back in time – you could just imagine the locals walking these routes before the invention of motor vehicles. Just before we hit the main road back into the village there was a long/short split. I assume the longs headed for home but the longs turned left and went down down down again through a woodland area following a beautiful stream. There were then more of the above – stunning pathways, gates through people’s lands and granite styles, finally coming out on a path by the church.
A truly stunning hash (despite the ups and downs) and it stayed dry!! Thanks to all the hares.
Down downs at the pub for the hares – B&M, Spin the Wheel, Your Nicked (although she gave hers to the raffle) and Ada (who was having her own down down from her Mum!!) Also a down down to Forest for 600 runs (only taken her 33 years to get there) and of course to the newly weds – Mystic Meg and Falsie – with a little bit of confetti thrown onto their heads and a card and bottle from the hash.
A great evening in a scenic spot.

Run 2555 report by Hide ‘n Seek

25 hashers gathered in the sunshine in a field belonging to Trelowsa Farm, near the beautiful beach resort of Harlyn Bay anticipating a gentle jog in the sunshine. However we all experienced something slightly different. The hare briefed us on the plans of the farmer to improve soil fertility by crop rotation ( hopefully I got that right) then off we ran through the harvested corn fields. Due to the very dry weather the running was very tough as the soil was baked and hard underfoot. We ran to the edge of one field then stopped confused by the sawdust hieroglyphics! It was a back check so back we went! We carried on into a Rambo area that was almost impossible to get through. Falsie and Scarlet Moggy bravely forced their way through, all hashers behind them were heard moaning about their scratches from the brambles when eventually we were called back by the hare, it was a FALSE! On we went through various Maize fields until we made it back to our cars after 1 hour 40 of hard running.
We were all delighted to see Er indoors and Mama Mia patiently waiting with a cold cup of beer and snacks. Thanks you so much for waiting for us. Back at the Farmers Arms: DD for the hares, thank you to both of you for the challenging run, Milestone for Sniffer 1850, huge achievement, well done Sniffer, Naming for young Max, very appropriate name, Gladiator. It was a gorgeous evening and we enjoyed relaxing in the Sunshine at the pub.

Run 2554
Monday
18th August @ 7pm
Venue: Coldrenick SX299613 No dogs please.
Hares: Godmother and Little Bo Peep
On-Down: Coldrenick. Captain Oates will be providing food but if you can, could you please bring a salad or a pudding. Cutlery and plates aren’t necessary and there will probably be enough chairs for everyone but you could bring one just in case! You will need to bring your own drinks and if you fancy a swim or a game of tennis bring whatever clothes you need.
PS - the grandsons love a pudding.
Run 2554 report by Forest

So poor Ted got forgotten again. he really was most put out especially when he heard there was food after too!!
Starting at Coldrenick, on another – ‘do I need a jacket or not’ evening, the briefing by The Godmother was short – sawdust, one L/S split, she would lead the longs and Little Bo Peep the shorts. It was good to see some children running – grandkids of hashers down to sunny Cornwall on holiday!!!
We started altogether with people checking out all options at the first check. I’m sure we ran on some new territory – was it all part of Coldrenick or perhaps a neighbouring farm? Field after field, road, more fields, most of them having the short stubble left from the hay harvest and some lovely big hay bales.
A long short split broke the group up and it was good to see a couple of the younger generation kept on the long. There was a steep climb up one hill which apparently Jon, a friend of Rangi’s tried (unsuccessfully I hasten to add) to chase me and beat me to the top! I only found this out after but it gave Rangi a laugh!! At the top of said hill, we were into long grass and drops very closely laid together. Looking around I realised we were on a hill fort (Padderbury Top according to the OS map), down a road and back into fields – some of us getting a bit cheeky by just running to the field gates to see which one had a check! The Godmother was a bit worried about the time and helped us negotiate a couple of fields before heading steeply down to the bottom of a valley and having a bit of a rambo section, over a fence, across some boggy area and back up the other side, into a field, where we recognised an outbuilding and just ran back to Coldrenick.
A great hash with lots of variety – thank you hares.

On return were treated to a lovely BBQ and salad meal followed by some delicious puddings. I think only Biggles took up the offer of a swim in the pool but the longs were definitely ready for their food on return with the On Sec clocking up 5.6 miles on her watch.
Down Downs to Gasbag and Captain Oates for supplying their land, their house, their garden and food (Thank you so much) and to the Hares – The Godmother and Little Bo Peep for an excellent hash and to the young boys who hashed so brilliantly. Another great evening.

Run 2553
Monday
11th August @ 7pm
Venue: Higher Westcott, Rillaton PL17 7PF SX294737. No dogs please
Hares: I’m Three and Eastern Promise
On-Down: The Manor House, Rilla Mill
Run 2553 report by Forest

Was it going to rain? Which trainers do I wear? Do I need a coat? All questions asked I’m sure by many hashers prior to the run laid by I’m Three and Eastern Promise from their house. The briefing – sawdust, 3 long short splits, a possible river crossing and treasure. Off we went. A bit of dawdling by the entrance to a field near their house but Eric Big Axe found the On down the road to a check. He went one way, only to find a false (or be called back – I’m not sure) and the On Sec went the other – down a slope into a field – only to find a L/S split which sent the longs back up the slope to the check and down where Eric big Axe had been which was now the ON. (Kudos to the hares as their little plan worked). The longs then did a loop through some Rambo areas, with Biscuit crossing the stream (which was a false after all) coming back to the L/S split at the bottom of the slope. Hornby and Rangi didn’t recognise the spot and headed back up the slope on the trail again (wonder how many loops they would have done before they realised!)
The trail went into Colquite Woods and out the other end and into fields. I don’t think anyone had any idea where the trail was going as Hornby in particular kept finding falses and those leading the ON changed all the time which was really good to see. We went through one set of maize, then seemed to do a 180 degrees back up the other side of the hedge. After the third L/S split, we came out to the road near the hare’s lane, but no – the trail went in the opposite direction. We were all getting tired by this point and were just like sheep following each other into each field trying to make the trail head back to Wescott! We were also wondering where the treasure stop was? Eventually we cut across a field and came back to the hare’s house via their stunning garden – full of flowers, apple trees, vegetables and more and there was the Treasure Stop – beer and crisps – what more do hashers want.
Thank you I’m Three and Eastern promise for a really well laid run which kept us guessing the whole time. The weather held – we had no rain – just stunning views at times across to Sharp Tor.
The On Down was at The Manor House Inn where down downs went to the hares, and a fleece, badge and down down to Rubberlegs for 1000 runs.

Run 2552 report by Forest

Laneskin Woods. New Territory? Meant to ask The Bard but forgot. The briefing from the Hares – Mystic Meg and Falsie was short – 2 long short splits, laid in sawdust before Storm Floris but ‘its still visible!’ The On was open in all directions except one. Of course, many of us started in the wrong direction and got a few extra steps in!!! I can’t tell you much about the hash as I have no idea where we went as it all looked the same, except that the L/ S splits involved the longs going uphill and the shorts having a flatter route. (I was tempted). Each time, the shorts slipped in front of the longs – only to have some of them thunder past again – a very well laid route to keep us together. The hares kept us guessing the whole time as to which way the On was. The woodland paths, soft underfoot, were a delight to run on although Hornby was heard to say (complain) that his shoes were muddy – from the recent rain- the first time in ages that he might actually have to clean them!
Just before the end, Rangi got excited when he thought he spotted a T for treasure only to retrace his steps for a second look to find out it was an arrow with an H for home!!! Because the route was so runnable, we arrived back at the start in record time. I was checking other people’s watches for distance as was convinced that I had run more than the 3.2 miles that my watch had recorded. The time didn’t matter – we were ready for a beer!
We took up most of the outdoor space at the On Down – The Half Way House (don’t think they want us indoors). Down downs to the hares – thanks for a fab run and for taking the time to get permission from Forestry England for us to do so. A birthday down down also for Foo Foo – Happy Birthday. It was a delight to see a new hasher at the down down – Baby Ada- how gorgeous is she. (not quite ready for a down down, although she did let us know she wanted feeding!)

Run 2551

28th July @ 7pm

Hares: Hide’n Seek and Sun Dodger
On-Down: Sportsman's Arms, Menheniot Station PL14 3UF
Run 2551 report by Eric Big Axe

On Monday, a highly tuned group of dedicated athletes, working as a team, returned triumphantly. No, not the ‘Lionesses’, but after a highly unusual 14 day hiatus, it was L2H3 who once again were ready to showcase their skills.
Not for the hash an open top bus ride down the Mall, but more prosaically the L2H3 charabanc arrived at Trenodden farm.
Fortunately we were not obliged to be welcomed with all the normal grace and good humour provided by Angela Raynor, instead we gathered for the briefing by Hide’n’Seek and Sun Dodger.
A load of Bull – that’s what one comes to expect when a hasher addresses the assembled mob, but in this case it turned out to be justified as dire warnings of the fate awaiting anyone who strayed from the path into the domain of the resident bull. He was described by Stephen, our host farmer, as ’on the run’ and not a very nice fellow.
After these warnings of untold bovine interventions the pale looking hash shuffled nervously around seemingly unwilling to move too far from the safety of the yard, exploring every unfeasible possibility of the on until finally venturing up the drive and pointlessly going around a field, until encouraged on by the hares.
Soon we were out in the magnificent surroundings of this beautiful farm and treated to views across the rolling bucolic countryside in the late evening sunshine. The only threats to safety were spuds !!
A very gentle and agreeable hash in a wonderful location – aren’t we lucky.
The finale of the run on the on-in was the spectacle of the frontage of the farmhouse across the lake – superb. We made our way past some enormous ‘Gunnera manicata’ which Hide’n’Seek remembered being planted when she was a little girl – so they have had plenty of time to grow to their current stature.
What a fabulous run and we are incredibly grateful to the hares for stepping in at the last minute and to the Pearce family for their generous welcome.
At the On-down, mine host Ryan had wisely chosen to keep the hash well separated from his more genteel clientele, but this was no issue as the al-fresco down-downs finished the evening perfectly.
Many congratulations to Hornby and Mama-Mia for 1250 and 1000 runs respectively – amazing. Mama-Mia in particular still looks as fit as ever – as if she had never run a step !!

PS Many apologies for the extreme tardiness of this report – it was produced and submitted on Tuesday, but owing to unknown IT issues it disappeared into the ether – I blame Russian hackers.

Run 2550
Monday
14th July @ 7pm
Venue: Foredown SX280696
Hares: Eric Big Axe
On-Down: Crows Nest
Run 2550 report by Forest

So the weather had changed from bright sunshine to a rather cold wind with some hashers standing shivering waiting for the run to start and others dressed for snow and ice in coats and warm hats!!!!
The On Sec had a quick word with everyone re the AGM (see below for details) before Eric Big Axe briefed us on the run- 2 Long Short Splits, one road crossing and laid in sawdust.
The Longs headed off towards Caradon Hill the shorts along the path to Wheal Tor (but not for long as they crossed the main road and headed down towards Pensilva). The longs did quite a large loop on the moor, getting thoroughly confused at one point, before heading back towards the cars but branching off to the route the shorts had taken 20 mins previously. Down the tarmac towards Pensilva to the second L/S split where the Longs headed down a bridlepath on the left and I think the shorts continued on the tarmac. A check on the bridlepath got the longs turning right across a bit of wasteland? I think – along a narrow overgrown path with a few cries of ouch and more expletives being heard before joining the short route. Tarmac and more tarmac – the hare was heard to say that the only way he could keep up with the longs was to run a lot of the hash on tarmac – is he going for The too much tarmac award!!!
We meandered down and down and down the lanes of Pensilva with a few footpaths and more tarmac before hitting a footpath across a stream and then going up and up and up back to the lower Pensilva road. We all thought we were heading back to the cars via Foredown but NO – Pentiddy it was – a circuit of beautiful woodland with more down down and down and then up up and up. Eventually back on the tarmac we turned right, down more tarmac , through a gate and back up to the cars – phew!
The On Down was at The Crows Nest with down downs to the Hare – Eric Big Axe and Get One Free- for her big 70 birthday.
Thanks for a great run – no matter how many times I run in those lanes in Pensilva – I always get very confused. No raffle wine as Hide n Seek forgot it!!! (Down down next time for her?)

Hares: On Sec and Rangi
On-Down: The Crows Nest.
Run 2456 report by Forest

Rangi and Forest intended to lay the hash first thing. But the mist was down in misty Minions. It cleared about 11.30 and was then so hot that checks were laid but not many falses!
At 7pm, in the Hurlers Car Park the briefing was given in lovely sunshine – 2 long/short splits, the trail doesn’t go through the village, laid in sawdust – very dark sawdust so look carefully and checking from here. The hashers were off. Not many drops could be seen and hashers were wandering everywhere trying to think where the hares would have laid the trail. Eventually with a bit of help, the first L/S split was found by The Pipers Standing stones – the shorts continued up the track for a bit and the longs went down the gully to the left. Scarlet Moggie got her eye in with the drops and found the trail which followed the gully for quite while. The checks had become a little indistinct but fortunately the trail was pretty straight. Its not often you can run down this way without getting wet feet.
With a little help from the hare, the longs went up and out of the gully onto the moorland, heading towards an engine house where they did a change of direction towards Tregarrick Tor. On crossing the stream with no water, a check by the stream sent them to a check with BM written by it. No – not BM for B&M to check but for burial mound, 2 of them in fact. The hare hurried them on as the mist seemed to be rolling in and this is not part of the moor where you want to get lost in as although beautiful, it is pretty featureless and easy to go around in circles. The next place to visit was a standing circle, although the arrow leading from it could not be found. A L/S split was found on the track leading to Gold Diggings, with the shorts heading back towards Minions (before a little diversion to the longs route) and the longs heading down to the farmers fields. Through a couple of fields where again, the longs ran everyway except the correct one, through a gate and onto the track leading up to Cheesewring – but no – not that way – to the right and then left up to a half empty pond which had cows paddling in it when the hash was laid in the morning. The route then went along this valley all the way to an invisible ON HOME not far from the hurlers.
Apologies for the sawdust – many of the checks had disappeared and you had to look carefully for the drops, but we fortunately escaped the mist and ended the hash in glorious sunshine again.
Long queues at The Crows Nest was a bit frustrating and not sure what happened to the live music jamming session that the lady had told me was happening – but down downs to the hares – Rangi and Forest and to 2 visiting Drake Hashers who are temporarily staying in Kelly Bray – Endosperm (Andy) and HT2 (Sheila). They used to do some hashes with us back in 1993!!!

Other news:
Hash Camp – The schedule is on the website front page. Please read re timings etc. Remember cakes for Saturday afternoon, umbrellas and rain coats for a wet weekend, big tea pots from those I’ve asked, and plenty of energy!

We are not using the BBQs this year but Potbelly would very much like to hand them over to someone for storage please as they are getting in his way. If anyone has spare shed space please let him know .

Run 2545

Venue: The Barn, George’s Lane, Sheviock SX371553
Hares: Carnage and Kiss Me
On-Down: The Halfway House, Polbathic
Run 2545 report by Mystic Meg

22 hashers turned up at The Barn in Sheviock. Arriving at the hash, Kiss Me was doling out insect repellent as we were informed that the chances of getting ticks attached to us whilst running through the ferns was high. It must have worked as I don’t think anyone got any.
At the briefing, we were told the hash was a bit of a treasure hunt…..the shorts had to find a pair of sunglasses and a pair of secateurs whilst the longs had to find a hearing aid! All a bit random until we found out that the three items had been lost by the hares whilst laying the run.
There were 4 long short splits and a treasure stop.
It was a lovely run through a mixture of woodland and fields with glimpses of the River Lynher through the trees. Hornby needs some tuition on the difference between a false and an arrow as we spent ages looking for the on when he had checked out a ‘false’ trail which wasn’t false at all!
The sunglasses and secateurs are now back with their owner, but unfortunately, the whereabouts of the hearing aid remains a mystery.

Back at the Halfway House there were down downs for the hares, Carnage and Kiss Me for a great run and one Foo Foo…. an impressive milestone …. 2050 runs!

Run 2544 report by Forest

On a lovely summers evening, a fair few hashers gathered at the Crows Nest Inn for the briefing from Shake Em Up and All Shook Up . 2 L/S splits (the second one apparently for the On Sec- who is supposed to tapering for the Scilly 60!!), a geocache, oh and dogs and sheep have been eating the trail!! Off we all trooped up the lane to the moors, through the gate to the first L/S split.
The shorts went leftish and the longs went right wiggling through paths, up and around. The checks kept us on our toes – wondering which way it would go next. Another L/S split near Gonamena, took the longs right and the shorts left again. We eventually got to the track leading to the On Secs house – but headed straight through the village where we mingled with the shorts who had come up from the Gonamena Incline Footpath. Keeping Bolitho’s fields on our left, we ran along more moorland, struggling to find the trail at times – but found heaps and heaps of look a like drops – alias sheep’s wool, to a gate. The front runners went through the gate, onto some tarmac and down to another gate that takes you back onto the moors. The On Sec was very confused and hesitated here as she had walked down to Crows Nest twice that day and had seen the geocache and a couple of checks and the OH sign and couldn’t work out how it all linked up. Anyhow, the drops continued on the road over a cattle grid at the top of Darite to the On Home sign down another footpath to The Crows Nest. The front runners came in quite a while before the next group- apparently the check by the gate looked like it had been kicked out down the horrible stony footpath leading to the start of Darite Village. Apologies on behalf of whoever kicked out the check. And On Secs confusement solved. The Geocache was only for the shorts. (well they didn’t say that in the briefing!)
A great hash- thank you hares. Down downs just for the hares – Shake ’em Up and All Shook Up

Run 2543
Monday 9th June 2025 @ 7pm

Hares: Jaws and Hotbottom
On-Down: Tencreek Holiday Park, Looe. Turn right by reception into carpark.
Run 2543 report by Forest

Well, we knew it would probably be hilly but the longs were told it was ONLY 3 miles!!! The briefing by Jaws and Hot Bottom was detailed with comments that the local community had been wondering what on earth had been going on with these 2 strangers marking areas with chalk and putting suspicious drops of substance of who knows what on the ground- it was all over facebook- so the briefing ended with ‘the trail might have disappeared!’
It started with a L/S split with the longs finding the short and the short finding the long trail. After a bit of running around like blue arsed flies, the hashers got sorted onto the right trail. A clever little road loop for the longs brought us back to the shorts although there was a bit of confusion when they met head on with Little Bo Peep insisting she was going the right way and it turned out – she wasn’t. Not her fault- the markings were few and far between due to local interference. We headed steep steep steep down hill on roads and then paths to Polperro Village where the longs turned right and the shorts turned left. The longs by this time were well spread out and we kept losing each other around the maze of alleys and roads in Polperro. Jaws did say that Hot Bottom would lead the longs and there she was- striding up a long hill chatting to Hide n Seek while Scarlett Moggie and I were trying to find the ‘ON’ having hunted out falses. (Apparently she did call us back but we didnt hear). We did manage to pick up most of the rest of the longs on our meanderings though and headed UP out of the village on a road on the other side of the river. Where were we going? Eventually we turned left onto a footpath that took us out to the coastal path and beautiful views. We stopped at a stunning view that looked both out to sea and back to the harbour and Hot Bottom pointed out the bit of concrete that Jaws had worked on for years in the harbour. I was intrigued – but Hot Bottom said you can ask Jaws about it but be prepared to listen for an hour!!
We left the stunning view to retrace our steps, back through the village across the river and onto the coast path the other side. Another detour down to Jaws’ concrete project. It was impressive – a jetty/breakwater to protect the entrance to the harbour when an easterly wind blows. It had taken a number of years to complete and I can see why. Again – a lovely view both ways from there.
Back onto the coastal path- with a stop for some much needed treasure which we all ran straight past and then another detour to the 3rd view point from the lighthouse – new ground for me. Fighting our way through stingers and bracken along the narrow path back to the main track we knew what was coming – a very steep uphill with a lovely flat grassy finish back to the cars.
Thank you hares – a very enjoyable and stunning evening.
The On Down was at Tencreek Holiday Park where the music was banging and B&M or should I say The GM became the RA. Competing with the noise, he managed to give Down Downs to the hares – Jaws and Hot Bottom , milestone to Biscuit for 300 runs and a down down to Winging Pom for after so many years of hashing – he still believed what the hares told him!!

Well you have heard of the Tour de France, well we had the Tour de Saltash!!! Thank you Brillo for the Tour and a well laid hash. A chilly start but everyone warmed up pretty quickly. Streets, fields, wood and parks, bits of Saltash we haven’t seen before.
Spin The Wheel nearly gave herself two black eyes!!! B&M is obviously out of practice doing a bra up as Spin The Wheel popped open on the way round the hash and B&M had to sort it out, owing to a broken thumb.
The start and the on down was at the Ploughboy, a room to ourselves. Brillo drank his pint down, then Spin the Wheel and B&M had their down down.
Happy Bank Holiday everyone, thanks for the hash Brillo

Run 2540 report by Hash Ted & Forest

On another lovely summer (well – technically spring) evening, a good number of hashers turned up at Gunoak Woods to sample the delights of this venue. (Is it new? Don’t think I’ve been there before and Ted certainly hasn’t). On the dot of 7, the Artful Dodger gave his briefing with the help of Potbelly – sawdust – 2 long short splits – Treasure and off we went. Ted decided to come tonight – he’s become quite a stubborn little bear – but he knew the On Sec was not allowed to run due to injuries – so he thought the ride might be more comfortable!!! (Cheeky thing!)
We all headed up a wide track with a splash of purple from the Tavira Invasion T-shirts dominating the pack. After a few checks, the first Long Short split appeared. The shorts branching off left ran / walked on a slightly higher path hearing Hornby calling out on the long.
The trees in the wood were magnificent with the light green new growth on the tips of the pines. The running underfoot was soft and it all made for a very pleasant route. We did venture off the main paths for a section – with a bit of a rambo jaunt over logs, through bracken (check for ticks please) and broken sticks until we came back onto a main track where there was TREASURE.
The youngsters that had joined us for the evening (family friends of the Artful Dodger) were very excited by this, but Mum was on hand to ensure they didn’t take too many!! The On Home sign appeared soon after and we were soon back to the cars.
Thanks to the hares for a great run on a lovely evening.
The On Down was at the Stoke Climsland Social Cub – a great little venue run by volunteers and we even had a live band practising in the next room for this weekends beer festival I believe.
Plenty of Down downs- for the hares, the family friends of The Artful Dodgers and for the following milestones: The Godmother – 1000, Gasbag – 700, Little Bo Peep – 550 Shake Em Up – 250. Well done to you all.

Run 2539 a,b,c
8th-11th May 2025
Run in the Sun, Tavira, Portugal
Run reports 2539 (a) 8 May, (b) 10 May, (c) 11 May by Eric Big Axe

On Tuesday 6th May, the forward recce party for the third annual L2H3 ‘Run in the Sun’, this time entitled the ‘Tavira Invasion’, set foot in Portugal.
After successfully advancing on from the beach head at Faro Airport, they reached the target in Tavira and established a comms post (Codename: Black Anchor).
After the arrival of the second wave on Wednesday, a pathfinder squadron of the ‘Hashaway mismanagement’ set out to confuse local residents by flour-bombing strategic locations around the town. Any intercepted messaging was skilfully infused with deception techniques – mostly involving photographs of splinter groups all seemingly oblivious to their unfamiliar surroundings and innocently waving litres of ‘Super Bock’ in a show of relaxed confidence. The majority later jointly assembled at the aforementioned Black Anchor for more ‘SuperBocking’, and to receive notice of L2H3 Hash 2439 (a) the following day.
Accordingly on Thursday 8th May, a briefing was given by Sundodger in the picturesque Placa da Republica next to the ancient Roman Bridge, and at 12:00 the run was On on !
There transpired a superb run which wound in and out of the old town’s lanes and points of interest and kept everyone guessing – including an evil back-check ! The hashaway mismanagement Hares ; B&M, Sniffer, Hide’n’Seek, Sundodger, Forest & Rangi, had done a brilliant job in unknown territory and everyone appreciated their efforts, even coping with ice-cold down-downs. Later in the day a good number of the L2H3 party moved on to a local vineyard, and after enduring a lengthy lecture on Portuguese wine making, they found the stamina to thoroughly sample a wide selection of the product.
Friday was declared a rest day, and many of L2H3 elected to take the short boat trip across to the geographically and ecologically interesting sand bar island. A select few embarked on a long walk along the beach and 5 took the plunge into a ‘refreshing’ Atlantic ocean. For others, the main point of interest on the island wasn’t the sand bar, but a cocktail bar to which great justice was done, with many exotic concoctions dispatched.
Saturday 10th May was the centrepiece of the weekend – a Red Dress Run, laid by Algarve H3. Not only were there hashers from AH3, but several other hashes from around Portugal. Everyone was suitably attired and a fine sight it was. Beer, wine (and softies?) flowed during a leisurely assemblage while everyone got to know each other.
The hares gave a briefing at which they were surprised and miffed to note that much of their proposed route had already covered by L2H3 on the Thursday ! There were to be 2 long-short splits, designated by beer stops, and a potential ‘long’ distance of 12km ! Checks were plentiful, but the hares had not counted on Forest streaking off like the wind and invariably finding the on before the rest of us could catch up. Although of course no hash is a race, our hosts were very surprised by the speed and athleticism of L2H3 as a whole…..
Back at the ‘circle’ our hosts RAs gave the thorough and wide ranging performances favoured by many hashes, but a little unfamiliar to the gentler L2H3 sensibilities. However, it was all taken in good humour and the great generosity was brilliant. The Thursday hares were quite rightly once again honoured as were plenty of others – Whingeing Pom was singled out for (I think) inattention to the RAs, during which he acquitted himself with grace.
After a brief period for recuperation, the masses regrouped at the Black Anchor where beer continued to flow and food was consumed – then into the bar for singing and dancing – a fine day.
Sunday 11th May – another day, another hash ! This one was laid by ‘Jolly Storks H3’, a very new hash in southern Portugal. Alarmingly, the briefing once again spoke of a long which would total 11km, but the by now battle hardened L2H3 cohort barely blinked.
Off we went, this time well out into the beautiful surrounding countryside of orange groves, vineyards and olives. There were two stops, one for beer and then one for Cava or ‘Espumante’ with strawberries and chocolate cake – evidently to mark what was Danish Mothers’ Day ! At the on down (circle) there were more festivities and down-downs galore, before we all yet again made our way to the Black Anchor for more refreshment, singing and dancing.
What a fabulous long weekend of hashing and general congeniality. Huge thanks to all those on the Hashaway mismanagement particularly B&M, but also Sniffer, Wigan Whippet, Hide’n’Seek, Sundodger, Forrest & Rangi who pit it all together and those who went that provided such great company.

Postscript
Quite a few stayed on for a day or two after the hashing, and of those some elected on Monday to hire bikes for a day and cycle east toward Spain. From this sprung a moment of infamy when your correspondent was culpable in a coming together of velocipedes that resulted in Spin the Wheel being rudely ejected from her machine, and breaking a thumb!
Mandy’s resilience in continuing to cycle and make it home with barely a complaint was an inspiration – a true sign of what hashers are made of.
ON ON !!

Run 2538 report by Forest

After a longish briefing of bluebells, rivers, electric fences and how to climb them by B & M, the hash set off down a track as one pack. B & M with the longs and Spin the Wheel and Harry (still to be named) with the shorts. The trail went over the said electric fence fairly early on, but we obviously hadn’t listened to the briefing as at the check, we looked everywhere except over the electric fence and had to be called back by the hare!! The On Sec was trying to help Sniffer, who doesn’t like electric fences, cross the fence but completely panicked, let out a scream and Sniffer jumped back!! On Sec then crawled under it and ran on – not even looking if Sniffer was OK- apologies Sniffer.
The run continued along the river for a while with bluebells getting thicker and thicker , then we veered off into the woods. After the long short split, the longs seemed to climb followed by a Rambo descent, then climb and climb and climb then down a little and climb and climb again!!! At the very top where the woods bordered the fields, the bluebells were simply magnificent- like a carpet spread across the whole of the top of the woods. At one point, the sun shone through onto them- breathtaking. We then started the tricky descent – slippy from the bluebells and full of fallen logs. Holding onto branches to steady yourself was not an option as many were rotten and just broke off in your hands, as many of us experienced!!! All this time B & M was following us so assumed he was kicking out the checks!!!! Apparently not!! (he thought he was the last one- so why bother!) We came across a welcome treasure stop once on flatter ground and soon found ourselves on the track back to the cars.
Great hash we thought- but where was Rangi, where was Scarlet Moggie and where was The Godmother? Somewhere out there in the woods! I had visions of Rangi having fallen over, breaking his leg and the ladies trying to escort him back!! Our trip to Tavira cancelled- or could I let him stay at home by himself and still go!!!! B & M and the On Sec trudged back up the track and had just got to the top when the 3 amigos appeared- all in one piece thank goodness. What had happened we asked- apparently they had been kindly helping people at that b….. electric fence and had got left behind. Because the trail had been so well laid, they found it easily enough but some of the checks hadn’t been kicked out (B & M!!!) so they never caught up with the rest of the longs. The worst bit though – they were starving hungry, desperate for food and the TREASURE had been taken by that said B & M again.
Thanks though hares for a stunning well laid run (well mainly walk with those hills) but it was just beautiful. Down downs went to the 3 hares and to The Bard for 2200 runs. He also received a decent bottle of wine with a hand made label and a badge. On On

Other news:
Just a reminder to pay for hash camp. Over 40 are now signed up. On sec will be asking around for various items required for camp over the next few weeks. A detailed itinerary will follow in due course.

Run 2537 report by Forest

The fantastic weather brought a good turn out for the hash from Cartuther Barton laid by Eric Big Axe and The Godmother. Before the run even started, The Godmother approached Hornby and myself to say ‘don’t run too far ahead – there are frisky stock in the field and we don’t want them spooked!!”. Well there was no chance of that with legs that felt like lead and any running downhill was agony following the Rasus Y Bannau Marathon at the weekend! Rangi thought my running style was hilarious as I was trying to avoid all the aches and pains!!

As the hash stayed on the farm, the 3 long/short splits, meant that the longs went around 3 sides of several large fields, which worked well at keeping us together at the end. The hares also managed to incorporate some bog, a gorgeous bit of woodland with many beech trees, (noted by the crunch of beech nut casings under our feet), the first half of which was adorned with bluebells, the rest still covered with delightful primroses, a beautiful valley under the railway and a steepsided climb through a mix of bluebells and stinging nettles which Forest managed to fall into and was itching all night. (Thankfully only noted at the time by Rangi – I certainly didn’t want a pint of water to down at the On Down!
On downs at the Sportsman’s Valley Hotel were given to the Hares – Eric Big Axe and The Godmother, and then half pints of water were given to Eric Big Axe for 750 runs and Forest for running a silly mountain marathon. By the way – I do drink beer and actually like it providing it is served at room temperature!! Not sure where this myth has come from that I don’t!
Thanks for a great run hares on such a beautiful evening.

Please note that next week’s hash is at 6pm.

Run 2536
Monday 21st April 2025 @ 5pm Easter Monday

Venue: Car Park opposite Long Ash Garden Centre, Buckland Monachorum, Yelverton SX496694 PL20 7LL
Hares: Stopcock and Am I Bovered
On-Down: The Rock Inn, Yelverton PL20 6DS
Run 2536 report by Eric Big Axe

An impressive turn out on an Easter Monday in the far flung ‘foreign land across the river’, were welcomed for the second time in not too many weeks by our hare Stopcock. During an admirably brief briefing, Stopcock announced that his co-conspirator Am I Bovvered, couldn’t be bovvered so wasn’t present. There was to be one long/short split, so there was a conundrum of how the hare’s care in the community responsibilities to both the longs and the shorts could be accommodated. Quite rightly, the solution proposed was “sod the shorts”.
The run began in warm sunshine with a gentle jog across the moor before descending into the valley of the Tavy, whereupon we were treated to a close-up view of a fabulous example of railway civil engineering in the form of a fantastic blue-brick multi-arch viaduct. From there a beautiful run alongside the river itself, including a few smaller tributaries to refreshingly ford, led to an ascent up to the promised viewpoint on another superb bridge. Back up through the woods to the moor and we were home.
At the Rock in Yelverton the few young patrons were understandably alarmed by the sudden appearance of the raucous assembly, but were no doubt put at their ease when the authoritative figure of the RA called order. Recipients of his munificence were of course Stopcock for yet another brilliant run, plus milestones for Sundodger (400 runs), Darcey Bussell (100) and Spin the Wheel for apparently enquiring what L2H3 meant ?!! Finally, a welcome for a further two generations of the Pacey hashing dynasty – mum named as ‘French Connection’ plus daughter, both of whom struggled to dispatch their very cold down downs !

Run 2535
Monday 14th April 2025 @ 7pm

Venue: Cecil Arms, Saltash PL12 4AR SX416583
Hares: Sun Dodger and Hide’n Seek
On-Down: Cecil Arms
Run 2535 report by Forest

Hash Ted refused to get in the car! ‘I’m not running in the rain! .” Like many people and Teds) he’s a fair weather individual. But not the rest of us. Come rain or shine – we turn up, huddled in the pub doorway of the Cecil Arms waiting for the run briefing and the adventure to begin and boy – was it an adventure!!!
Laid in sawdust- no falses – 2 drops and you are on, 2 long short splits and off we went. Having to find 2 drops was a great ploy as you weren’t really sure how far to run until you turned back. Off we went along a road and into a field. A L/S split appeared quite quickly and Forrest soon found the ‘on’ trail. Over a style and onto a road. Forrest turned right and at the junction leading to the school, she found another drop and another drop so happily ran on her way shouting On On, not realising that no one was following her!! Eventually she lost the trail and started to turn back – where was everyone – no one around. Panic set in and she ran back to the first drop and heard On Ons coming from a field. She eventually caught up with the shorts only to find the longs weren’t in front of them – so back she went to that ominous drop on the corner- but still no longs could be seen or heard, so back she went again to the shorts and eventually found Sun Dodger who said the longs were doing an extra mile and “if you run back to the bridge – you will find them!’ So back went Forrest again – all uphill to the bridge – no sitings, so back up the next little bit and eventually there they were, so about turn and all the way back the other way.
The next part was a beautiful run along the coast, paths we had done before but they never detract from the beauty of it. The cleverly laid trail, took us up and around one small field so we never seemed to catch up with the shorts and then the same again around a huge field. The views from the top were amazing – coast and castle view. Found Little Bo Peep who told me I was on the short trail and not the long!!! Not again I thought, but turned out – I was on the right trail, but Kiss Me Kate and Gasbag had inadvertently, despite shouts from Sun Dodger, short cut to the long trail. We caught up with them near the waters edge at Forder, where the drops had petered out, the tide was in, so they assumed the trail was up a very steep muddy bank. Gasbag was crawling up on his hands and knees with Kiss me following him and then me. It was a real scramble. Just as we made it to the top, Hide ‘n Seek arrived and said it wasn’t up there and there was no way through. I carefully slid back down the bank (scary) but Kiss Me and Gasbag decided to carry on as the way back down was NOT easy. At which point Sun Dodger – the nautical man who was in charge of checking the tides and said it would be fine – arrived. And yes – we had to wade shin deep in water to find the trail as it had been submerged. Not good for those of us with waterproof shoes as once the water is in, it stays in, so we were sloshing about for the rest of the run. Sun Dodger retreated and went to help Kiss Me and Gasbag – not sure where they went but they arrived back just after the longs from a different direction.!
Back onto the road and at a fork – Hornby went right and was way in front, knowing it led back to the cars – ‘on one’ we heard – but didn’t hear anymore. I went the other way but heard Scarlett Moggie shout, so assumed Hornby was on the correct route – but she and Hot bottom were just shouting on one – so back I went and the left fork was the ‘on’ route. By this time the hare had caught up with us and we weaved our way through a housing estate, missing out a short section as time was getting on, crossing a false to get back on the trail (under the hares command), which confused B&M completely as he daren’t go over a false and eventually we arrived back at the cars just after the hour.
Ted – you really did miss a great adventurous run with stunning views.
The Cecil Arms was great too, under new ownership they had heard that in the past if the hash turned up, they were provided with food and after the Down Downs to the Hares – Sun Dodger and Hide ‘n Seek and the On Sec for getting lost, out came plates of sandwiches and chips which were quickly demolished.
Thank you hares – such a lovely area to run.

What a glorious evening. A beautiful sunset, a clear sky and a well laid run by the hares, Scarlett Moggy and The Bard. Over fields, a stone bridge across a stream and some quiet country lanes, a perfect start to the spring/summer Monday evening hash season. I am sure Ted would have agreed, a great run had by all.
The on down was at The Old School Inn serving fine organic beers.
Some hashers that have been before brought along a new member, the youngsters ran well and enjoyed their down down. Well done boys.
Well done everyone, we hope to have many more Mondays like this.

Don’t forget that the clocks go forward this weekend!
Run 2533 report by Eastern Promise

Todays hashers arrived on Foredown on a beautiful sunny morning of note, as it was Mothering Sunday, our last Sunday morning run of the Winter season & the first morning of the of daylight saving time, so all of us had ‘lost’ an hour into the ether.

Forest presented the briefing clearly & the longs headed off in the direction of Pensilva village whilst the shorts scurried off in the other direction.

Despite a damping overnight & a breeze in the air most of the trail was visible & Forest had diligently checked some of it & relaid it where necessary.

Forest accompanied the long runners well, always being in the right place at the right time & Pete managed the short runners, having not seen where some of the trail went except for on a map, both groups arrived back at the car at a similar time, almost bang on 1200 for the long runners.

Another well planned hash that was enjoyed by all.
Thank you hares.

Down downs for the hares, Forest & Rangi & for Mamma Mia for ‘doing’ the short trail but she denied it & got Hornby to drink it as she hates beer!

Run 2532 report by Rangi

Slopey shoulders AKA Forest asked me to write this week’s word as she goes enjoying herself running a half marathon in the Forest of Dean. News just in 1:45:04 and second in her age group.
Anyway on to the report – it was a challenge to find the place and even more of a challenge to find a parking place – the early arrivers managed to secure their spots, but as the proverbs says, ‘the early bird catches the worm’. The Bard reminded us it was a live hare run and without too much procrastination we were all off and hunting down the hare. This was virgin territory for the hash and a secret that has been kept from us for too long. It was wonderful running terrain with majestic views of the coast and over to Clay country.
The longs and shorts were expertly marshalled (see what I did there) by Am I Bothered’s partner/wife/girlfriend. Didn’t manage to get her name but she deserved a medal for standing in the cold for over a hour waiting for the groups to pass through. There was a cheeky check back that sent the Longs up and down a steep hill, which I assume the Shorts avoided.
The three drops and on definitely worked well and surprisingly we all managed to stick together with no long drawn out tail. We came across Stopcock along the trail and I assumed we’d caught up with the live hare – no such luck, the trail had been completed but we still had some way to go.
It was a great run with great scenery and smashing to run in mid Cornwall for a change – well worth the drive.
The Bugle Inn was a real pub and most welcoming, mind you I completed another run from my car to the pub – parking again was an issue – but who cares – this minor inconvenience could not darken the joy of the hash – Thank you Stop Cock, Am I Bothered and the cheery marshaller.

Run 2531 report by Hash Ted & Forest

First of all- it’s good to be back to sunny Cornwall and hashing with L2H3. Rangi and I hashed about 5 times with Mijas Hash and once with Malaga hash and we so much prefer L2H3 where the down downs are fun but quick (we don’t have to stand in a circle for over an hour), the RA isn’t swearing every other word and being very derogatory about women and we don’t have to score the run out of 9.9!! Don’t get me wrong, the hashes themselves were mainly good and many of the hashers were fine, (I suppose we are a strange lot) and it was nice to run in warmer climes, but we did miss you lot!!
Thank you to all those who laid runs, wrote the word, stepped in at the last minute and of course to my amazing committee while I was away. I’m not sure that I’m even needed!
Today’s run was a bit of an epic – 6.38miles according to my watch but what beautiful weather and beautiful scenery. I had no idea where I was, which direction was home and neither did Ted. But he was so glad to be back out on the hash!!! I only learned that he had been cooped up in The Godmothers car for 2 months when Stopcock asked me why I was carrying a Teddy on my back!! He loved being back out – the best thing being Scarlett Moggie who, while checking, thought she was stepping on some hardened sun baked mud, which turned to be ankle deep shiggy. We did have a laugh!! The route of the hash was great- woodlands, fields, hills, views and all in the sunshine.
Thanks to the hares – The Godmother and Hotbottom for an excellent hash – especially as it was a pretty last minute one to plan. Down Downs to the two of them at the Sportsmans Arms in their fantastic new conservatory. There was a milestone but the hasher didn’t come back to the pub!! We WILL get you at some point.

Run 2530 report by Biscuits

A beautiful day for a hash and what better place to start than Minions, with its wild moorland and stunning views. The sun was shining, the air was crisp and the group set off in high spirits, ready for whatever the hares had in store.

We were soon treated to a mix of terrains; woodland trails farmland and open moor. A few friendly horses looked on curiously as we passed, perhaps wondering why a group of lunatics were dashing about in the countryside, while they calmly grazed. The highlight of the route, however, had to be the dairy farm. Apparently, as my Mum has informed me, the cows here enjoy a touch of luxury, producing more milk thanks to their Astro Turf walkways to protect their hooves – modern farming at its finest!

The hares had clearly put thought into keeping the pack together, with three well-placed check-backs ensuring no one got too far ahead. And just in case we’d forgotten who was behind this cunningly laid trail, a strategically positioned Marshall trailer was there to remind us… good effort!!!

A Treasure stop came at just the right time, providing a much needed sugar boost to power us through the second half of the run. With renewed energy, we continued on the long trail, which gave everyone a proper workout, but the beautiful views and the good weather made it all worthwhile.

Notably, Shook ‘Em Up experienced an unexpected jolt, getting electrocuted along the way by one of the electric fences – with the amount there were, one of us had to get caught! The run concluded with the down-downs, with a huge thanks to hares Stopcock and Am I Bovvered! for orchestrating this wonderful hash. Milestones were celebrated: Spin the Wheel with 150 runs, an impressive 2000 runs for Whinging Pom…. although it didn’t stop him whinging!! and we welcomed two brave visitors, Clare and Michael. Unfortunately, poor Jaws was deprived of a pint at the Caradon Inn, but he put on a brave face.

A great hash, clever trail-laying, and lovely company, thank you.

Run 2529 report by Mystic Meg

Well what can I say? A pancake/St Piran’s run in glorious sunshine . What more could anyone ask for?

27 hashers and a new recruit, Cassian (the latest addition to the Sneyd family), set off from the church in Menheniot. We were all armed with our pancake mix containers (except Potbelly who couldn’t be bothered 😕)
A lovely run through fields, lanes and the village. Ever so well organised at the ingredient stops which were all marked with a St Piran’s flag. There was a gauge on the scoop so that we got the correct amount ensuring the best pancakes ever!
Flour by the roadside somewhere, eggs at the cricket club and milk at a house in the village.

Back at the Old School everyone had their gas stoves burning away…. the chefs ranged from Capt’n Oats who had brought along a mixer, a lemon squeezer and fresh lemons and maple syrup to accompany her pancakes, to Stopcock who hadn’t brought anything. Fortunately for him, Little-Bo-Beep came to the rescue and he ended up being the top tosser of the day!

Down downs given to the hares, Hide ‘n’ Seek and Godmother and Headlong who dropped her flour outside the Cricket Club.

Thanks to the hares and Get One Free who donated the raffle prizes.

Run 2528 report by Hash Ted and Jaws

Well the forecast lived up to it’s name – wet and windy, but it did not stop intrepid hashers from coming! At least the Hares got to set the run in the brief day of spring like weather yesterday.
I took one look and thought sod that, I’m staying home. Luckily that nice man Jaws went, and told me what went on.
With great reluctance in the face of the stormy conditions and driving rain, the hash left the shelter of the barn after the briefing, hoping to survive and get past some scary sounding pigs without mishap.
Jaws did not seem to know where we went, just muttered something about an endless series of fields, and a squelchy session along a stream. Everyone got stuck at one check for ages with no sign of a trail, only salvaged when Bronyon could be seen in the far distance jumping up and down to attract our attention.
A welcome treasure stop was found toward the end, and shortly afterward the “longs” were offered a short cut home, leaving just a few to see it through, with no sign of the pigs! I gather they sensibly stayed in their pens.
Around 4 ½ miles in all.
DD’s for the Hares for their efforts
DD’s for milestones – Hot Bottom (1100) and Jaws (700). Jaws told me that meant he had had 400 more lie in’s.
Misdemeanour for someone dropping a sweet wrapper. Nothing to do with Kiss Me Kate, but like a true hasher she volunteered herself for the DD.
Finally great to hear that Invisible Man was there …… but I could not see him!

C5 and Mr Blobby took time out of their Cornish holiday to set a great hash in Deerpark Woods.
It started with an essential briefing on the differences between our signs and theirs…..there was the standard check – 4 drops and on; a check with a dot in the middle – one drop and on; a horizontal line – check back. What they didn’t mention was that their false, rather than an X was a F. Unfortunately for me, I became very acquainted with the F as I seemed to find every one.
B&M found an arrow which he swore was a false. He didn’t get a down down as he had to rush off to work on his kitchen!
The hash went well. No one got lost, no injuries although a few near misses with the brambles doubling up as trip wires.
A warm welcome back at the Cafe. Our hosts laid on some French fries which were well received.
Down downs for the hares and their back up crew and Potbelly who got one for a bridge too far. He got as far as New Bridge at Callington only to find the road to Liskeard was closed and had to detour.
Thanks again Berkshire. See you either in Portugal or hash camp.

I was excited about the hash on Sunday but a very cold wind was blowing so Hide n’ Seek being of the medical profession decided the best place for me was to remain in the back of her car, keeping me safe from nasty winter viruses
She told all about the hash later.

Hashers listened diligently to the Hornby give an in-depth brief about avoiding electric fences, major roads and barbed wire.
Off they set running round the fields surrounding the car park rather aimlessly, the hare was heard to say, best use of limited land whatever that means! Eventually they went into fields containing winter sheep food, turnip’s apparently! They look disgusting, poor sheep. Then into a few muddy field where the turnips had been eaten by the sheep. Very muddy and electric fences everywhere. Jaws was at hand with a large plastic bag to hold over the fences to prevent shocks so at least there was some effort towards health and safety!
Then into some challenging Rambo woods then finally through some fields back to the cars. A lovely dry hash, thank you hares.

Downs downs at Great Trethew
Hares – Horby and Sniffer for an enjoyable 90 minute hash
Mystic Meg for crossing a major road, she did dispute this and Hornby did look a bit scared of her!
C5 for leaving his car boot open as he drove out of the car park – he blamed someone else
Hind n’ Seek for the heinous crime of leaving the wine raffle prizes at home
Paddington for 1300 runs
C5 from Berkshire ended the DD with details of Tuesdays hash.
Welcome back to our friends from the East.

The Main part of the day was when Mrs Chopper and Get One Free presented the beautiful bespoke tablecloth made by Firefly using old hash t-shirts belonging to Chopper and Dockleaf. This beautiful creation brought a tear to many hashers as we remembered these well loved hashing giants. Thank you Firefly and we look forward to seeing you soon

Hares: Brillo, B&M and Capt'n Oates
On-Down: Torpoint sailing club, Marina Drive, Torpoint PL11 2EH
Run 2525 report by Captain Oates

The run started at Thankes car park in Torpoint and in the absence of chief hare Brillo [who was still setting the run] the instructions were given by Captain Oates and B&M – numerous options were offered from both the long splits, down to coffee at Hearts and off we set at 11.00am. Hot Bottom managed to take a tumble in the mud but otherwise the run was fairly uneventful and everyone enjoyed the glorious weather, almost unheard of at this time of year. The checks and trail were remarkably intact – a mixture of chalk marks and sawdust to cover all weather options. We enjoyed glorious views of the Tamar estuary and Devonport. Some of the shorts missed the treasure stop [due to treacherous short cutting] so leftover treasure turned up at the On Down. The longs got back at 11.59am – B&M assumed the other half [Spin the Wheel] had gone straight to the On Down at the sailing club so went there, only to find she hadn’t so had to go and rescue her. Meanwhile the rest of us enjoyed the sailing club hospitality. After Down Downs for the hares [Brillo, Captain Oates and B&M] there was a further Down Down for Bronyon for achieving 2050 runs.
Many thanks to Brillo for helping us out – he was suitably rewarded with a jar of my special marmalade and a half decent raffle prize.

Run 2524 report by Shook ‘Em Up

On a cold, wet, misty morning Ted decided he would rather stay dry and warm in Rachel’s car, and who can blame him. Nobody wants a cold, wet, soggy Teddy.
The run took us over moorland, through bracken and a small amount of mud!!!!
We ventured towards Henwood passing South Phoenix mine and headed down to the shire. The word down means in our minds we need to come up!!!
We passed over a bridge, trip trap trip trap trying not to disturb the trolls living underneath the bridge.
Sure enough there was the HILL. Up, up and still up towards Stowes Pound. The mist had lifted and it was a lovely view. On, on towards Minions, passing Rillaton Barrow and sighting Gold Diggings in the distance.
A well laid Hash even though they had to do it twice because of interference from muggles. Well done to the Hares, Mystic Meg and Falsie.
On down at the Caradon with lovely pint of Otter Ale. Ted was very pleased everyone had a good hash.

Run 2523 report by Eastern Promise

The hardiest of hashers came out for today’s run. Battling through the debris & floods to arrive at Catchfrench for today’s run laid by Godmother & Biscuits, they do seem to pick the weather to challenge us!
The hares were very sympathetic & let us off the first of many long short splits. Biscuits made sure the long runners found the trail & Godmother looked after those on the shorter trail.
The run was wet, very, very wet. There were a few fallers but everyone made it around, even the longs who were up to their knees crossing a gushing river that was only a trickle when the hares laid the trail. We were grateful for the guidance from Biscuits to ‘hang on to the fence’, if we hadn’t we would have been washed away.

We had a dry place to change afterwards & the hashers whit was flowing, I’m sure I heard someone say they had tipped a fish out of their trainer! (There is some good news, if we had been in Liskeard today we would have been running through not just the rain but an enormous hail storm as it was totally white when we drove by, so we were very lucky!).
Thanks to the hares for another good run & to all those that braved the weather for today’s hash. On On.
The down downs were awarded to the hares, Kiss Me for reaching 400 runs & to Whingeing Pom who was disobedient, he parked at the top when was told to park at the at the bottom yard.

Other news:
Berkshire are down between 12-19 February & will lay a hash on the 18th February.

Run 2522 report by Hash Ted and The Godmother

Left in the car boot again! Two weeks running, but this time by The Godmother. I was so fed up until I overheard the hare ‘I’m Three’ giving a convoluted briefing;
Laid in sawdust, 4 long/short splits, hieroglyphic checks in the shape of a figure 8 (signifying 8 trails to check), backward arrows to be treated as falses. I was almost pleased to be left behind – my head was buzzing.
The run at Higher Westcott, I heard though, was brilliant. Very well laid through a wonderful variety of countryside. Lots of farmland, leading to long stretches through woodland. Often challenging with steep slopes to scramble down. Lots of mud, water and brambles.
Although cold, it was dry and with occasional crops of snowdrops promising us spring was around the corner.
After a 1 hour 20minute run the hash met at The Manor for the on down where many stayed for a roast. The Godmother regretted not booking as the food smelled delicious.
Down downs were given to “I’m Three” and “Eastern Promise”.
Thank you, both of you for a truly wonderful, well laid hash – I am sorry I missed it.

Run 2521
Sunday 12 January 2025 Hash Christmas Dinner

Venue: West Tuelmenna, Dobwalls. SX222657
Hares: Mismanagement
On-Down: Horizon Farm, Bakers Hill, Tremar, PL14 6EA SX257674
Run 2521 by Hash Ted & Forest

So I got left in the car!!! And on such a beautiful day too!! Forest was not checking the time and at 11am she still had her warm jacket on which she threw in the boot on top of me and rushed to help The Godmother with the briefing!! Oh well- at least now- I dont have to think what to write- its all down to her!!
The hashers all started going in the same direction, around the farmhouse and into a field full of brambles. The Bard was smiling as it was ‘New Territory’. The first hurdle was trying to get down a bank across a brook, under some barbed wire and back into a field. Fortunately we had sorted an alternative route for those with less flexibility! Through fields, up and across before the first long / short split on the other side of the lane. The longs went around a very big field, into some woods to find another barbed wire fence to cross and up a steep hill and bumped into a the shorts coming the wrong way!!! About turn for the shorts – back to the check to look again. Around another field and onto a check which led into some lovely woods. I must add here that the hares had tried to get into the woods along that valley on numerous occasions when sussing out the hash and each time were beaten back by endless brambles, deep bogs and impenetrable branches, so it was a bit frustrating when only a few actually followed the trail through here.)
But- never mind- the sun was out. Most got to the next long/ short split and headed off in different directions. After a few more minutes, the longs and shorts got back to almost the start. I don’t know if any shorts decided to call it a day, but the longs did sort of follow the route up and around a few more fields and back to the cars. Apologies if the hash was tricky to follow in places- we used a mix of chalk, dark sawdust and light shavings and you did have to slow down and look carefully for it. It was there.
We then met at the Farmshop for the xmas celebrations- putting on our glad rags in the very clean car park! ( I think I had more positive comments about the car park than the hash!!??!! :). The hashers enjoyed their free drink and had time to socialise before the down downs- to the 4 hares- The Godmother, Forest, Little Bo Peep and Hide ‘n Seek and to Scarlett Moggie for 1700 runs, Baz, for organising the meal, Mid Rift and her partner as a welcome back/ virgin hasher. The starters soon arrived followed by the mains and pudding. Spin the wheel was on her way to dancing on the table, but was restrained by her daughter- ‘Your Nicked” and she entertained only those on her table! The excellent stand in RA- aka Sun Dodger (as B&M is only just getting back on his feet) proceeded with the raffle which was excitedly awaited. A great day- thanks to all who helped out and for on sec- another one ticked off. Phew!!!

Other news:
The On Sec is away for a couple of months. Back mid March. Hide n Seek
is away for 3 weeks and Little Bo Peep is away too for a couple of weeks. The Godmother has Ted. Please support her by volunteering to write the word. I know that some of you have actually enjoyed the experience. I will be reading it when I have wifi!

Run 2520 report by Hash Ted and Sun Dodger

I will admit since I have been asked to accompany hashers on their weekly hash, I have been to some lovely locations, but nothing so far had prepared me for yesterday’s hash at Tokenbury Corner. What fun it was! For this hash I was asked to accompany the tall ex Navy chap called Sun Dodger and what a gentleman he proved to be. Due to such inclement weather we were all amazed that our hares had actually managed to lay the hash, but after a thorough brief from Black Shadow and Son of Cyril the Squirrel (Alpha One) we all set of into the mist and drizzle, wondering if we would ever see our cars again.
Conscious of such poor weather, Sun Dodger said he was determined to keep me warm and dry and promptly placed me on his chest inside his coat. To me this was magnificent as I could hear his strong heart beat which gave me confidence, that I was with such a capable host. Sorry I forget myself, back to the hash. So up we all went up into the mist which seemed to get thicker and thicker. Fortunately though, our hares were generous with their drops and checks, obviously no expense spared with the sawdust as they were, bold and clear for all to see.
We all spread out which enabled us to find the drops and as you would expect Sun Dodger was for a good period front running taking the lead. I was warm and dry, close as I could be to his warm chest, which is just as well as the drizzle and mist was unrelenting. Finally we could go no higher as the base of Caradon Mast came into view, the base only as we couldn’t see any more of it. Sun Dodger told me he was a frequently visitor of the moor and that you get some magnificent views but yesterday was not so. We also commented that without such clear drops we could have easily lost our way as it all seemed to look the same. The treasure stop was a nice break Roses chocolates, Sun Dodger said they were his favourite, mine too! We pushed on determined to see our cars again and head for the On Down. By now every had wet feet but I was warm and dry, snuggled in tight on Sun Dodgers chest.
Eventually we returned to our car, changed and headed for the Whealtor Hotel. Down downs for the hares, and one for Mystic Meg who celebrated her thousand runs with the club. Bravo Maggie. I can’t wait for next week’s hash, it’s the Christmas special by the committee. I’m wondering now who I’ll be with, maybe Sun Dodger again.
